PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Introduction Each technology center accredited by the State Board shall have defined procedures for the continuous assessment of its professional staff. These assessments shall be used as a basis for identifying the professional growth needs of individual staff members. Efforts shall be made to ensure that in-service and/or upgrade training is provided for identified needs. Commendations or Strengths Both campuses do an excellent job using the Master Teacher Criteria to assess professional development needs for teachers. In addition, having the Denison survey is a very powerful tool for professional development needs assessment for the entire school. It should also be noted that the school does an excellent job of identifying professional development needs at the individual employee level. The professional development committee has a great representation of members. The minutes also show the meetings at the EI Reno campus are well organized and action oriented. As a result of the assessments, surveys, and professional development plans, the campus does an excellent job of offeriog professional development for the staff.
Specific Recommendations for Improvement This administrative review standard was met. General Suggestions for Improvement A counselor should be added to the professional development committee. This will allow the committee to have a well-rounded representation from the staff. A process for developing professional development goals needs to be implemented. The goals should be used to guide the assessments and surveys used for feedback. A documentation process needs to be developed to identify the relationship between the assessed needs, the professional development committee agenda, and the professional development opportunities offered for the school. Documentation also should be developed to support the New Employee Orientation program; e.g.: orientation agenda, mentors, scheduled meetings, and other activities.
