COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING

Introduction

The marketing and communications function at Canadian Valley Technology Center, El Reno campus, seeks to reach various publics through a variety of methods and media. Marketing and communications tools are professionally produced and designed to reflect the personality of the community and the people the technology center serves. Staff continually strives to refine messages and improve upon their work to meet overall goals of the institution.

Commendations or Strengths

The EI Reno campus has strong internal communications as evidenced by many activities and tools. In addition, the intranet is an important communications tool as well as an excellent resource to help employees carry out their work. The tech center is to be commended for providing opportunities for two-way communications with staff and other key publics to ensure they are "on the right track," such as the boot camp, counselor meetings, and high school recruitment activities. Enrollment trends in high schools seem to be climbing, evidence that marketing efforts are working. The redesigned website communicates essential information and is customer focused and user friendly.

General Suggestions for Improvement

The marketing plan is comprehensive and includes strategies for key target audiences. While the plan spells out the analysis and communications components of the RACE formula (research, analysis, communications, evaluation), the research and evaluation components need to be more clearly defined. However, there was evidence of the research and evaluation activities in other areas of the plan. The evaluation team encourages the staff to strengthen the strategies with the general public and to explore opportunities to reach out to the adult population. The team also encourages coordination throughout the organization to maximize marketing and communications efforts to the target audiences identified by the plan.
