BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY RELATIONSHIPS

Introduction

The Business and Industry Relationships administrative standard requires an accredited techoology center to provide programs and seminars to meet the employment needs of business and industry. The standard stipulates that this responsibility be fulfilled by regular meetings with advisory committees or similar groups to receive input to guide the customized training and/or business assistance provided to the area's businesses.

Commendations or Strengths

The Business and Industry Services (BIS) team is to be commended for the emphasis placed on economic development and real-time industry training throughout the district. Each member of the BIS team participates in community activities and economic development groups, which is evidenced by a 207% increase in clients since 2002. There were 226 clients in 2002 and 698 in 2007. These activities have helped Canadian Valley Techoology Center to prepare well for the future training needs of the district.

General Suggestions for Improvement

The BIS staff has done an exemplary job of increasing the number of clients being served and this trend should continue. The staff might consider going into the rural areas and targeting small businesses in order to continue to expand the number of clients being assisted by the techoology center.
