GUIDANCE AND TRAINING ASSISTANCE Introduction Each technology center is expected to provide all students with information on career options advise them on appropriate educational paths to meet career goals; and provide students with the necessary support for success in their career programs. Commendations or Strengths Canadian Valley Technology Center is to be commended for the thorough guidance plan and for including guidance goals in the strategic plan as well. The documentation compiled for this standard was very well developed and provided good examples of the student services processes the site has put into place. The formal process put into place and the documentation done for adult students with disabilities and for students on individualized educational programs (IEPs) is commendable and ensures the students receive the services needed as well as providing proper documentation to protect the school. Canadian Valley's Accessibility Guide is listed on the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education's website as a statewide resource. The Chickasha campus has extensive mailings to parents and students on CareerTech opportunities, services, and activities to help ensure these parties know what can be accessed at the technology center. There are strong partnerships between partner schools: counselors meet monthly and the special needs advisory committee meets twice annually. It was evident in the documentation that there are also strong partnerships between community agencies for referral and support services, including assistance in the development of an Alateen program and advisory committees. It is commendable that Canadian Valley Technology Center has activities that start early to help promote career development: a 5th grade carnival; 8th grade career day; and sophomore tours. The promotional materials were well done and included clear and concise information on the technology center and its opportunities. It is commendable that the Student Services staff had a brochure of their own. Specific Recommendations for Improvement This administrative review standard was met. General Suggestions for Improvement It is suggested that the 8th grade career day be expanded to include a planning activity. Early career planning becomes even more critical as the system moves toward career majors/courses and higher graduation requirements.
