INTRODUCTION

The purpose of dropout recovery is to provide an avenue for at-risk students to gain either a high school diploma or GED to enhance the economice development of Oklahoma's workforce.

COMMENDATIONS OR STRENGTHS

The referral process that is used in Project Connect is very comprehensive and thorough. Students and parents recieve a good orientation to Project Connect and what is expected. Parents are involved in the student's progress.

Project Connect has a good strategic plan that outlines what they intend to do and the datat that was used as a basis for the plan. There is good documentation on each student to be used to justify the importance of the program. The program has a good mix of individuals on the advisory committee who are willing to discuss and develop strategies for improving the program.

It is recommended that instructors be encourage to utilize the Applied Technology, Writing, Business Writing, Listening, and Observation instructional components of KeyTrain to augment their life=skills instruction. These lessons incorporate career-specific skills, reinforce content presented in other formats, and incidentally improve written, oral, and auditory communication skills.

The referral form need to be reviewed for complance with Civil Rights law. Some of the questions that are on the form should be asked post-enrollment only.
