INTRODUCTION


The Early Care and Education program is designed to provide training for students to gain skills in working with children from infancy to kindergarten. The program is 1050 clock hours in length, and enrollment includes high school juniors and seniors as well as adults. Currently, there are 41 students enrolled, with the main area of career training being assistant teacher, master teacher, and director.

The program has a full-time instructor and an early care and education center director. The center is open 12 month a year. Additional staff members are assigned to each of the children's classrooms. Currently, the early care and education cetner is licensed for 35 children. The center is licensed for children ranging from six weeks through five years of age. The facility includes an instructor's office, student classroom, early care and education director's office, reception area, four children's classrooms, and a kitchen.


COMMENDATIONS OR STRENGTHS

The administration is to be commended for its support of the program as evidenced by the spacious facility, well-equipped resources, and equipment. The facility has ample supplies and resources. The facility has been well maintained and is very well organized. The instructor brings a wealth of information and resources to the program. Students have the ability to gain real-world experiences in a supervised setting, which will make them ready to enter the work world. Career planning and direction empowers students to determine an educational path to meet their individual needs.

The classroom technology includes student computers and a SmartBoard to allow the instructor to integrate technology with instruction. She has a well-defined course description and syllabus. The current course offerings and syllabus are in line with the Career Cluster initiative.

The instructor is very active professionally and transfers that professionalism through her leadership of student involvement in FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leadres of America.) Commendations go to the instructor and administration for the 100 percent student organization enrollment. Students involved in experiences through FCCLA are demonstrating leadership abilities and community involvement.

The instructor has worked with her staff to recieve national accreditation through the National Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This prestigious honor is ia tru testament to the strengths of this program. Thise 3-Star facility is an excellent training facility for the Early Care students.

Even though the program has a SmartBoard, it needs to be upgraded to include the latest technological advancements.
