| INTRODUCTION |
The Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program at Canadian Valley Technology Center, El Reno campus, is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified Part 147 Airframe and Power Plant training school. One instructor and an instructional aide deliver the core program covering 1965 hours of instruction in aircraft maintenance and repair. The students served in the core program include juniors and seniors from local high schools as well as adult full-time students. Current enrollment is 17 morning (3 high shcool students and 14 adults) and 16 afternoon students (2 high school students and 14 adults). At the time of the evaluation, the program had two additional shifts operating to assist displaced manufacturing workers from local plants that had been closed. |
| COMMENDATIONS OR STRENGTHS |
The program has recently expanded from airframe only to airframe and power plant certification. The administration and the instructor are committed to expand the program. The students have their own computers in the classroom and have access to aerospace maintenance specific software. Instruction is a combination of lecture, multimedia, and hands-on practice. The instructor is taking a proactive approach to not only program development but also to the AMT trade group development by serving as the trade group chairperson. Leadership through the shcool and instructor has provided curriculum development opportunities for the statewide system. |

SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT |
| (These recommendations address Standard Not Met and should be implemented so that those program standards can be met.) |
| STANDARD 6 | Instructional Facilities |
The size of the facility is not of adequate size to actively engage the number of students enrolled and to provide adequate space for equipment and hands-on training stations. The program would be more capable of serving the students and the program mission with a larger aircraft-dedicated hanger and classroom facility. The evaluation team suggests the school target approximately 12,000 square feet of hanger and hands-on training area. The team believes strategies that involve splitting the 12,000 feet between two large bays is an option. If the split becomes necessary, then one area should include include the training stations and the other area should house the aircraft. |
| GENERAL SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT |
| STANDARD 7 | Safety Training and Practices |
The instructor was unable to provide the proper material safety data sheets (MSDS) for chemicals used in the program. The MSDS compliance is for the protection of the individuals using the building and for protection of the school. An effort should be taken to bring the MSDSs into compliance immediately. Strategies for meeting compliance were shared with the instructional staff. The process for updating the MSDS notebook began prior to the evaluation team's leaving the building and therefore the standard will be viewed as being met. A follow-up visit will take place prior to the end of the school year to ensure the updating has taken place. |
